The University of Tennessee’s Lone Oaks Farm master planning process was led by nationally recognized conservation agriculture landscape architecture firm, Nelson Byrd Woltz; as part of the design team, WMWA provided ecological design expertise including proposed habitat restorations and planting palette specifications. Lone Oaks Farm includes 1,200 acres of scenic pastures, large bodies of water and woodlands. The complex site will accommodate a wide variety of programming, including youth education, hospitality and agriculture. Key to the master planning effort is a careful consideration of the future and historic ecological elements of the site. WMWA’s analysis of the ecological conditions, topography, soils and history is informing an approach to restoring native plant species and promoting wildlife diversity while integrating with the proposed architecture.
