Stenacraw

Chattanooga, Tennessee

As part of Chattanooga’s redevelopment of Miller Park, Stenacraw is a public art sculpture inspired by the unique geologic characteristics that define the landforms across east Tennessee’s endemic landscape. The design incorporates forms and materials that are derived from four thematic elements of the Southern Appalachian Mountains: the parallel alignment of the ridge and valley landscape, the stratification of geologic layers, the formation of mountain boulders, and the layering effect of expansive mountain views. Rising from the surrounding hardscape, the sculpture features multiple, parallel bands of “ridges” cladded with local sandstone and limestone. The resulting sculpture is an iconic feature of the park and across the City that invites exploration, leisure, and play.
